Me as a designer
My superpower is empathy and that is the foundation of my work. I'm a senior designer with years of experience in creating user-centered digital services across a wide range of industries. I have for example worked with SaaS, MaaS, finance and in the public sector. I have vast experience in user research, visual and interaction design and making scalable solutions. I always try to understand the bigger picture and I think about the users in it especially at the start of the project. Understanding the business and users helps to understand how the product might need to scale in the future. I have worked with many projects where I had to think the business and user needs together.
I have experience from many projects that are live and have users every day. In addition to users, for me it has also been important to work closely with various stakeholders like marketing and business teams. I love to bring design thinking to everyday business and decision making. Most recently, I have worked at Epassi Group, one of the largest company benefit providers in Europe with millions of users. Last year, I was leading design work to create two completely new products for Epassi Group.
Outside work
I like to enjoy nature and spend time with my family. I like to cycle, hike, swim and ski as sports but when I want to really reset I go hiking and fishing to some remote spot at Lapland or boating to lake Kallavesi. There you can just relax, see the landscapes and make open fire coffee. It also gives nice perspective to the everyday life.
I also like mentoring newer designers and sharing my own experiences from the field. I have been Aalto University mentor few times.
Feedback
I have always respected and valued feedback and open talk. Feedback is very important part of a good workplace and in a bigger picture being transparent of everything makes people usually happier. So here are some of the feedback I got when I asked for it.
I worked with Roope on two complex product development projects (Bike Services and a new SME onboarding) in Epassi. Roope was the lead designer. I was consistently impressed by his creativity, user-centered thinking, and ability to bring clarity to even the most abstract requirements. He created user flows, interactive prototypes, and organised design systems in Figma. This made the entire process smoother and more efficient for everyone involved. Roope brought a strategic mindset to every design decision. He was proactive in asking the right questions, open to feedback, and always focused on solving user problems.
Roope showed great skills to translate business demands into top class solution design. Roope is a very nice person to work with and has great solution design skills & competence. He always brought some fresh new ideas into our discussions, especially from the end user point of view, and through him I learned to know what UX design is about.
Roope was working as designer in a project improving delivery application for ABB's Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) service. LCA service helps customers to identify the status of their drives installed base and make service and upgrade decisions based on this data. Roope was helping us greatly with designing the new, more intuitive user interface. He can work independently based on given instructions and guidelines. When getting more familiar with the topic, He contributed to the project with new, fresh ideas and improvement suggestions.
As a UX Designer, Roope consider usability and modernity when designing the UI. Roope sees quickly how to make the UI of existing functionality user friendly and up-to-date. In a new feature development, Roope designs the UI to meet the requirements specification, taking into account usability and modernity. It is easy and pleasant to work with Roope. With him, you can reflect on UI and UX issues. You get always answer and his opinion if you have any questions or ambiguities regarding UX and UI.
